The best WooCommerce reviews plugin, by the checks that matter

Best depends on what a review plugin has to do for your store. Here are eight checks a store owner can verify in any plugin’s documentation, and how Rosette Reviews passes each one.

What makes a WooCommerce reviews plugin the best one?

The best WooCommerce reviews plugin keeps reviews and customer data on your own server, asks every customer automatically with one link per order, sets no cap on reviews or emails, shows criteria, photos and filters shoppers can use, adds review schema inside WooCommerce’s own product markup, verifies reviews against real orders, answers GDPR requests, and lets you export everything and leave. Rosette Reviews was built to pass all eight; the free plugin passes them with 47 features and no time limit.

The eight checks, and how Rosette Reviews passes them

Each answer below is taken from the plugin’s own feature documentation, which you can read on the Features page and in the plugin’s readme.

  1. Does it keep your reviews and customers on your own server?

Reviews are your store’s asset and your customers’ personal data. A plugin that syncs them to a vendor cloud makes you dependent on that vendor and answerable for that transfer.

    Rosette Reviews

No account to create, no API key and no sending quota. The only optional outside service is the captcha you choose (reCAPTCHA, Turnstile or hCaptcha), with your own keys.

    Where your data goes

  2. Does it ask every customer, automatically, with one link per order?

Most reviews come from a timed request after delivery. If the request needs a login or one form per product, most customers stop.

    Rosette Reviews

Sends a review request a set number of days after an order reaches the status you choose. Sends run on Action Scheduler, the queue WooCommerce itself uses. Each request is claimed before it goes out, so no customer is emailed twice for the same order. Each reminder carries a signed link to a form listing every product in the order. Reviews sent through it count as verified purchases, and links stop working after the number of days you set.

    How it gets more reviews

  3. Are there caps on reviews or reminder emails?

A cap turns a review plugin into a metered service. A store that grows should not pay per request.

    Rosette Reviews

None. Rosette Reviews does not count or cap reviews, reminder emails or photos, on the free plugin or on Pro. Emails go out through your site’s own mail or SMTP plugin.

    Limits, answered

  4. Does it show reviews in a way that helps shoppers decide?

A plain list of stars does not answer a shopper’s question. Criteria, photos, filters and search do.

    Rosette Reviews

Average, total, star bars with percentages (click a bar to filter), recommendation rate, verified-buyer count and a Write a review button. The form stays folded until a shopper opens it. Customers rate the criteria you name, and each criterion gets its own bar in the summary. With Pro, a criterion can show only for chosen product categories, such as Fit for shoes and not for coffee, and every product keeps at least one rating that applies to it. Customers attach photos to their review. Visitors open them in a lightbox that works with the keyboard.

    What shoppers see

  5. Does its review schema work with WooCommerce and your SEO plugin?

Two Product nodes on one page, or ratings that disagree with the page, cost you rich results instead of earning them.

    Rosette Reviews

Adds AggregateRating and Review data to WooCommerce’s own Product markup instead of printing a second Product. It can also fill in a GTIN (with its check digit verified), MPN and brand from fields you choose, only where WooCommerce or your SEO plugin left them out. Google decides whether to show review snippets.

    Review structured data

  6. Are reviews verified against real orders, and are paid reviews disclosed?

Regulators in the EU, UK and US act on fake and undisclosed incentivised reviews. A plugin should verify, flag and disclose on your behalf.

    Rosette Reviews

Matched against the customer’s own orders, and set for every review sent through a signed reminder link. Each new customer review gets a risk score from plain signals: several reviews from one connection or email in a day, text copied from another review, a form sent within seconds, very short text, a brand-new account, a throwaway email address, several links, or no verified purchase. The star rating is never part of the check. A Risk column explains every score, a High risk view collects them, and high-risk reviews wait for you even when an auto-approve rule would publish them. Rewarded reviews carry a disclosure label that stays even if the add-on that rewarded them is removed. Reviews posted through WordPress’s own comment form or other plugins always wait for moderation.

    Verification and integrity

  7. Does it answer GDPR requests without extra work?

A data subject request must cover reviews, photos, request logs and consent answers, not just the WordPress user.

    Rosette Reviews

A consent checkbox on forms, and an optional one at checkout. WordPress personal data export and erasure cover reviews, photos, questions and answers, the request log, link tokens, checkout consent answers and the unsubscribe list. Erasing a customer cancels requests still waiting to go out. Off by default. An opt-in or opt-out checkbox on classic checkout and the Checkout block. The answer is saved on the order with the time and the exact wording shown, and every review email respects it, Pro email-platform pushes included.

    GDPR export and erasure

  8. Can you leave with everything?

The best plugin is one you could stop using. Lock-in is a cost you pay later.

    Rosette Reviews

Exports reviews in every status with criteria and photos. CSV output is safe against spreadsheet formula injection. Data removal is opt-in. Native WooCommerce reviews stay in place either way.

    Export and uninstall

Who is Rosette Reviews the best fit for?

Rosette Reviews fits WooCommerce stores that want more reviews without a new subscription, agencies that run many client stores, and merchants who will not send customer data to a review cloud. If you need a hosted dashboard outside WordPress, a different kind of product serves you better.

Store owners
More reviews without learning a new SaaS. Install, switch on reminders, pick a delay; the Overview checklist covers the rest.
Agencies and freelancers
The free plugin runs on any number of client sites with no per-client subscription. Copy a file from the plugin’s templates folder into yourtheme/rosette-reviews/ and edit it. You can leave whenever you like and take everything with you.
Privacy-focused merchants
Avatars are drawn on your server from the reviewer’s initials. You answer data requests from the WordPress privacy tools you already use.

What Rosette Reviews deliberately does not do

A plugin that claims to do everything is hiding its trade-offs. These are ours, stated so you can decide with the facts: no vendor cloud, WooCommerce only, the engagement features in Pro, and no invented prices before launch.

  • There is no vendor dashboard, cloud mailer or hosted widget. Everything runs inside wp-admin on your server; that is the design, not a gap.
  • Rosette Reviews is a WooCommerce plugin. It does not collect reviews for non-WooCommerce sites, though the testimonial form works on any page.
  • Video reviews, store replies, product Q&A, coupon rewards, AI summaries and importers from other review apps are in Rosette Reviews Pro, the optional yearly add-on. The free plugin is complete without them.
  • Pro prices are announced at launch; nothing on this site invents a number before then.
